H&T Presspart is a part of the H&T group, specialising in the manufacturing of deep drawn metal pressings for the pharmaceutical and industrial industries.

With vast production rates totalling 400 million components a year, quality and consistency is paramount to ensure H&T Presspart meet the tight specifications of their customers.

Wanting to invest in optical measurement to improve their accuracy and overall production capabilities, they invested in four VICIVISION UK machines.

Project Brief:

Producing 1.5 million components every single day, it is crucial for H&T Presspart to be able to ensure quality on every single product they produce.

“As a high-volume manufacturer, quality is incredibly important,” explained Mike Delderfield, H&T Presspart’s Quality Manager.

“If anything goes wrong then it’s going wrong with a lot of components. Our customers expect components to be dimensionally correct and they often have very tight specifications. We were originally in the market to introduce optical measurement onto our aerosol cans.”

The Solution:

Following research and experience with the  VICIVISION UK team, H&T Presspart decided to invest in four VICIVISION UK machines to introduce optical measurement into their pharmaceutical and industrial departments.

“We took the decision to go ahead with VICIVISION UK machine due to their technical capabilities, but also due to our experience of their after sales support,” said Mike.

“We now have four VICIVISION machines, three in our pharmaceutical factory and one in our industrial factory.”

The Benefits:

Since investing in the VICIVISION machines, H&T Presspart have had then located on the shopfloor, within production environments to serve the day-to-day operation of the factories.

“Before we introduced optical measurement systems, we used to collect parts, transfer them to our metrology lab and measure them offline,” said Mike.

“That has the negative you’re not getting live data from a process. The VICIVISION’s allow us to collect, measure and feedback to the operation within a really short time period.”

“They also allow us to predict process failures which improves our OEE. We have improved the efficiency of our machines, with less downtime and reduced scrap.”

The VICIVISION design makes them perfect for the shop-floor as they don’t need to be temperature controlled so they can sit on the end of your production process.

“We don’t have any issues relating to vibration, oil or dust,” said Mike.

“The VICIVISION machines have been really reliable and the accuracy is maintained during production.”

The VICIVISION UK team have been on hand to support H&T Presspart through every stage of the process. From initial guidance to the right machines, through installation, training and continued on hand support and maintenance.

“The after sales support for the VICIVISION machines has been excellent,” said Mike.

“If we have any technical queries or we need any support, the technical guys are always very quick to respond and provide the support we need.”

“Overall, the machines are very easy to program. We have been trained to a very good level which has allowed us to be pretty much self-sufficient.”

WHY VICIVISION UK?

Introducing the VICIVISION UK machines has proved invaluable to H&T Presspart, elevating the quality of their products and the production process as a whole.

“The move from attribute gauging to optical measurement has been a complete success,” said Mike.

“It’s a permanent change and we only see it being extended throughout the business into the other divisions and onto other products.”

Mike continued, “For me personally there are so many benefits to it from a point of view of the accuracy, data collection, the process understanding and the process control. Theres no way we’d ever go back to attribute gauging instead of optical measurement.”

“The capability of our process has improved and the quality of the product has improved.”
